If you receive a letter from Marlis Jermutus,
you will see this symbol from ancient India, the AUM, drawn on the envelope.

You can find it in a thousand other places, in cards and letters she's written, and woven into paintings she's created. The symbol represents three sounds in Sanskrit that when chanted together approximate the totality of all vibration in creation. After years of drawing this symbol, Marlis appears to do it effortlessly, the practiced hand of an artist expressing a knowledge direct from experience.

Marlis' early childhood imprints on her psyche occurred during the stress of war. She learned, through dire necessity, the importance of thorough observation and decisive action. She applies this talent to her art as well as to the countless tiny actions we all devote to moving our selves through a day.

Leonard Orr said we must purify ourselves faster than we pollute ourselves, and in that way we can stop the aging process. In the same way we try to understand our human relationship to the planet we live on, there also exists an ecology of the individual's body, mind and spirit. We live most of our day in a highly managed environment of our bodies moving through our buildings. Being conscious of the influence of what we take into ourselves and with what we surround ourselves forms the first steps on the path to increased intelligence and vitality.

With an artist's sensitivity to meaning and detail, Marlis has become a master in the art of creating the day. She consciously follows the affirmation, "I am tuned and healthy. I express myself in synchronistic harmony to the vibration of my true inner core whether I eat, rest, exercise, create, meditate or play."

She fulfills this affirmation with an uncommon attention to detail. Her life style, like her art style, has evolved with an elegant, spirited generosity.

Marlis offers this website as an introduction to the observations and practices that form the ground upon which her artistic expression flowers.
